Hmmmmmm The Bible... Well, to me it is an interesting slice of history. It reflects Jewish tradition with a few pagan myths thrown in to spice it up. But, I also can see that perhaps the Bible like the Koran can lead to close mindedness if taken literally (and almost every Christian tradition changes the rules on that one.)
I wonder sometimes why people are so intent on following a book that was written by a primitive people in an age of superstition. It does have some pretty awesome thoughts and ideas, but in general it reflects the thoughts, traditions and customs of the Jewish people AT THAT TIME in history.
When it comes down to roasting bulls, smiting and stoning one's children, and making sure one does not come near menstuating women, the rules have changed.. Why, I am not quite certain.. but, it has to do with the New Testament somehow. But, yet the rules have not changed when it comes to witches, prophets and oracles.
I think that sometimes the Bible, like the Koran is used as a weapon to strike out at others who do not follow the rules inside of it's covers. Wars start that way. I truly believe that God and Allah are at war right now in the mideast.
I also wonder why.. if the New Testament is the story of the life of Jesus.. why Jesus never wrote a gospel.. or a single word in it in fact.
Thoughts to ponder.... Linda

**Laugh** Good point! Why wouldn't Jesus himself put his thoughts down to papyrus! As for God and Allah, once again, I still believe they have to be one and the same (They both came off the same base, in the Torah) and all the hubbub in the middle east is not the fight between God and Allah, but the fight of greedy men who have plummeted into a downward spiral from which they cannot seem to reclimb. They have fought so long and hard, I feel they have likely as not lost sight of why they crossed swords in the first place! Bah!
A quick screenshot of my view on the Christian Bible, if you read between the lines, it's a great read, full of all the things modern novels aspire to. Love, devotion, gods, war, happiness, and sadness, with some good morals thrown in the mix. It's the ancient version of Star Wars! Jedi Knight Jesus Christ against the hordes of evil Imperial Romans! It's the beginning of all good vs. evil stories!

LOL.. Flash, you are such a wise old soul.. Thanks for that perception.. I have to remember that Jesus Christ the Jedi Knight.. It brings to mind a personification of all the characters ... with Mary Magdeline as Princess Leia, and Moses as Yoda.. My mind continues on that one...
It's not the book.. it is like anything else.. it is what people do with the book that is the problem.
Love and Light... Linda
